Spikes win two at Richland Center

The Lady Spartan spikers turned in a solid effort over the weekend, winning two of four games at an invitational tournament in Richland Center.
The wins came just two days after Sparta suffered a 3-1 loss to cross-county rival Tomah in a Mississippi Valley Conference road game Thursday night.
Sparta defeated Belleville and Brookwood at Richland Center, but suffered losses to the host Hornets and La Crosse Logan.
Richland Center Tourney
Sparta 2, Belleville 1
The Lady Spartan spikers bounced back from an early loss to win two straight and defeat Belleville.
Belleville handed Sparta a 25-20 loss in the first game of the best-of-three match, but Lady Spartans rallied to even the score with a 25-12 win in the second game, before capturing the match with a 25-11 win in the third.
Coral Jones led Sparta with eight kills, while Becca Jenkins recorded four blocks and Marissa Erickson finished with 11 assists.
Sparta 2, Brookwood 0
Sparta swept past the Falcons to earn their second win of the tourney.
The Lady Spartans opened with a 25-15 win over Brookwood and sealed the match with a 25-16 win in the second game.
Jones recorded five kills to lead Sparta, while Madi Blaha and Sierra Gallup added four kills apiece.
In addition, Blaha recorded 13 digs for Sparta.
Sparta 0, La Crosse Logan 2
Sparta played well against the Rangers, but dropped the first two games and the match.
Logan opener with a 25-20 win over Sparta and earned the match victory with a 25-23 win in the second game.
Jackie Page led Sparta with four kills and seven digs, while Katie Warren recorded seven digs as well.
Sparta 0, Richland Center 2
The host Hornets handed Sparta its second loss of the tournament.
Richland Center opened with a 25-13 victory and secured the match with a 25-18 win in the second game.
Blaha led the Lady Spartan spikers with nine digs and Page finished with four assists.
Sparta 1, Tomah 3
The Timberwolves opened with back-to-back wins and handed Sparta a 3-1 MVC loss at Tomah.
Tomah jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-12 victory over Sparta in the opener, then moved in front 2-0 with a 25-20 win in the second game.
Sparta bounced back in the third game, outlasting the Timberwolves 25-14, but Tomah answered with a 25-13 victory in the fourth game to seal the victory.
Jones led Sparta on offense with 10 kills and 2.5 blocks, while Jenkins added six blocks.
Page recorded 15 assists for the Lady Spartan spikers and Warren finished with 16 digs.
The Lady Spartans are back in action tonight (Tuesday), when they host La Crosse Central in a 7 p.m. MVC match at Alton Ask Gymnasium.
