Girls tennis team drops MVC match at Holmen
The Sparta girls tennis team suffered a Mississippi Valley Conference road loss at Holmen Tuesday afternoon.
The host Vikings swept both the singles and doubles matches to capture a 7-0 MVC victory over the Lady Spartan netters.
In singles play, Sparta’s Elsa McPherson was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Holmen’s Lindsey Lichucki at No. 1, while Lady Spartan Kira Schaitel fell 7-6 (5), 6-0 to Viking Ya Thao at No. 2.
In the No. 3 singles match, Sparta’s Jordan Green was beaten 7-6 (4), 6-3 by Viking Haley Cone, while Lady Spartans Shannon Goede suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Holmen’s Shelby Hornberg in the No. 4 singles match.
In doubles action, Lady Spartans Krystal Lieder and Holly Larsen were defeated 6-4, 6-1 by Vikings Molly Molinsky and Briana Shea at No. 1, the Sparta duo of Rajvi Patel and Grace Hellman suffered a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Kirsten Olson and Lauren Grade of Holmen at No. 2 and the Sparta team of Esperanza Hedrick and Armalyn Hedrick fell 6-2, 6-4 to Vikings Maddie Vogel and Aspen Brandsay at No. 3.
The Lady Spartan netters are back in action this (Thursday) afternoon, when they host La Crosse Logan in a 4:30 p.m. MVC match at Meadowview Middle School.
On Saturday, Sparta travels to West Salem to battle the host Panthers and Wisconsin Dells in a 10 a.m. triangular.
