Bangor won its pool and posted a top-eight finish in a summer volleyball tournament in Black River Falls Friday.
The Lady Cardinal spikers finished with a 4-2 mark in pool play and advanced to the quarterfinals, before falling to eventual champion Tomah in the varsity tourney.
Bangor opened play in its four-team pool by earning a split with Viroqua.
Bangor got off to a slow start, falling 25-17 to the Blackhawks in the first set, but rebounded with a vengeance to capture a 25-8 victory in the second set to come away with a split.
The Lady Cards moved to 2-2 on the day with another split in the second set.
Bangor edged Fall Creek 25-22 in the first set, but the Crickets managed to earn a split with a 25-24 victory over the Lady Cardinal spikers in the second set.
Bangor kicked it into high gear in the third match of pool play, sweeping La Crosse Central 2-0 to post a 4-2 record in the first round of the tourney.
The Lady Cards opened the match with a 25-22 defeat of the Red Raiders and captured the sweep with a 25-21 win in the second set.
The 4-2 mark earned Bangor the pool title and the fourth seed in a 16-team single elimination that followed.
Bangor faced a familiar foe in Viroqua to open single-elimination play and defeated the Blackhawks in a single-set race to 25.
That was as far as the Lady Cardinals would get, however, as eventual champion Tomah eliminated Bangor in the quarterfinals.
