Bangor bounces back at Cashton, Brookwood girls improve to 12-0
Bangor bounced back from a weekend loss and Brookwood won its 12th straight in a pair of Scenic Bluffs Conference girls basketball games Tuesday night.
The Bangor Lady Cardinals used a big first half to topple Cashton 59-28 in a road game, while Brookwood’s defense was the key to a 55-41 home victory over Hillsboro.
Bangor 59, Cashton 28
Seniors Jaclynn Freit and Emma Wittmershaus combined to score 42 of Bangor’s 59 points in a road win over the Lady Eagle cagers at Cashton High School.
The Lady Cardinals took charge early, opening up a 30-11 lead at the break.
Bangor continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring Cashton 29-17 to secure the win.
The victory comes on the heels of Saturday’s 71-59 loss to top-ranked La Crosse Aquinas in the Midwest Players Classic at the La Crosse Center.
Freit scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Cardinal cagers, while Wittmershaus finished with 18 points.
Alea Fortier and Ariana Hundt added four points apiece for Bangor, followed by Haylee Leonard with three and Courtney Oesterle and Trisha Jones with a pair apiece.
Shelby Hanson scored 10 points to lead the Lady Eagles on the offensive end of the floor, followed by Hailey Huntzicker with five, Odessa Hemmersbach with four, Brianna Wanek, Allison Brownell, Ally Peterson and Adelynn Hyatt with two each and Olivia Hemmersbach with one.
Bangor improved to 6-0 in SBC action and 11-3 overall with the win, while Cashton fell to 3-3 in league play and 5-7 overall.
The Lady Cardinals are back in action Friday, when they travel to New Lisbon for a 7:30 p.m. conference contest, while Cashton hosts Royall in a 7:30 p.m. SBC game on Friday as well.
Brookwood 55, Hillsboro 41
The Lady Falcons forged a five-point halftime lead and slowly pulled away in the second half to extend their season-opening winning streak to a dozen games.
Brookwood held a 24-19 advantage over the Tigers at the break and outscored Hillsboro 31-22 over the final 18-minute frame to secure the win.
Allyson Nelson scored 19 points to lead the Lady Falcon cagers, while teammate Ellen Marriott finished with 11 tallies.
Angel Brueggen and Amy Berg added nine points each for Brookwood, followed by Lydia Madrigal with five and Cassidy Green with two.
Sydney Johnson scored 15 points to lead Hillsboro, while Molly Crandall added an 11-point effort for the Tigers.
Brookwood remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 6-0 in SBC action and 12-0 overall, while Hillsboro fell to 3-3 in league play and 9-4 overall.
The Lady Falcon cagers are back in action Friday night, when they hit the road for Necedah to take on the Cardinals in a 7:30 p.m. conference contest.
