EARL L. FINDLAY
Earl married Candy Corbin on July 22, 1974. After marriage they lived in Hillsdale, Illinois. They moved to Sparta in 1982. He worked as an over the road truck driver and hauled milk for Daniel Olson Trucking Inc. He is survived by three children, Jamie (Renae) Findlay of Sparta, Jason (Robin) Findlay of Mindoro, Jennifer Findlay of Sparta; grandchildren, Brittany, Devon, Alyssa, Austin, Aubrey, Wyatt, and Dillon; three sisters, Cindy (Ralph) French of Illinios, Tammy Peters of Rhinelander, and Teresa (John) Optiz of La Crosse. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Candy on April 28, 2002, and two nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Lanham-Miller Funeral

JANE FLYNN
She married Jerome Flynn in 1932 in Galena, IL. During World War II, Jerome was a commissioned officer in the United States Army, and served in the European campaign. Jane accompanied him while he was stationed in different locations in the United States. She held secretarial positions at those various locations. Her husband was a life long Northern States Power Company employee. In 1952, he was transferred from Sparta to Red Wing and they built a house in Wacouta. She accepted employment with the Minnesota training school for boys. Her department processed new arrivals into the system. Upon retirement, they traveled extensively to many other countries. One of Janeís favorite pastimes was walking in the woods of Wacouta, including time spent gathering edible ìwildî mushrooms. Jane loved to cook and entertain friends. She enjoyed playing bridge. They moved to the downtown plaza in 1991. Jane suffered a partial paralyzing stroke in 1994, and had been confined to a wheel chair since that time. Jerome died march 3, 1996. Jane moved to Deer Crest in December of 2008. She was an avid reader and she was able to continue this pleasure through the help of volunteers with Friends of the Library who brought and returned books for her. Jane had few relatives and they all lived a great distance, but she was blessed with their loving support and encouragement. She was admired by friends and relatives for her determination to live as independently as possible no matter what challenges came from her changing condition. Her attitude was that there were always others with more serious problems than she had. She never lost her quick wit or sense of humor. She is survived by a nephew and his wife, Jack and Joyce Nielsen of Kaweak, CA, deceased nephewís wife, Jeanne Nielsen of Sarasota, FL and by grandnieces and nephews in both of these states. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Ruth Nielsen and her nephew, Bradley Nielsen. Memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26, at Deer
Crest with Pastor Michael Dobbins officiating. Burial will be in Wacouta
Cemetery, near Red Wing, at a later date.
ROLLAND ìROLLIEî J. GREEN
He married Rita Bobst on August 22, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sparta. After marriage they continued to live in Sparta. Rollie worked for NOB Motors, Sparta Motors, and Tedís Standard until retirement in 1984. He loved his Fords. Rollie was an active lifetime member of the Sparta Area Eagles Club serving many terms as a trustee and a term as President of the organization. He was a lifelong fan of Stock Car Racing. He was a faithful watcher of the weekly NASCAR Races. He also spent a few years as a mechanic for some of the local racers back in the 1960ís. He was an avid bowler, bowling for many different teams and leagues around the area. He attended the yearly State Eagle Tournaments. Rollie became a resident of Time for Ease in October 2009 and then a resident of the Morrow Memorial Home in August 2010 until the time of his passing. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rita of Sparta; four children, Steven (Stacy) Green of Sparta, Sheryl Rhymer of Sparta, Brian (Denise) Green of La Crosse, Eric (Becky) Green of Sparta; eight grandchildren, Ritchie Rhymer, Nicole Green, Michael Green, Brandon Green, Alex Green, Zach Green, Sam Green, and Noah Ruckheim; a great granddaughter, Zaylee Mae Green; a sister, Eleanor Stark of Bangor; a brother-in-law, Walter (Kris) Bobst of Sparta; a sister-in-law, Zona Green of Sparta; many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael; his parents; his In-laws; four brothers, Kenneth, Eldon, Gerald, and Ralph. Family graveside services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Leon Cemetery, Leon with Pastor Stephen Sandness officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery. JEAN M. LEIS
She married Clifford Leis on May 25, 1968 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Summit Ridge. After marriage they moved to the Town of Sparta and have lived there all of their married lives. Jean has worked at Northern Engraving the past 47 years. She was a member of St. Patrickís Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Clifford of Sparta; children, Tommy (Trisha) Leis of West Salem, Todd (Nicole) Leis of Stoughton, Jennifer (Wayne) Zillmer of Fifield; six grandchildren, Kyle Leis, Breanna Zimmerman, Haily Leis, Tyler Leis, Shelby Zillmer, Wyatt Zillmer; three sisters, Joan (Gerald) Koltermann of Sparta, Irene (Leon) Leis of Sparta, and Shirley Hansen of Sparta. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrickís Catholic Church, Sparta with Father Ed Shuttleworth officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrickís Catholic Cemetery. ALBERT C. SCHMITZ
Albert was born March 3, 1920, on the home farm on St. Maryís Ridge, Cashton, to Louie and Mary (Herricks) Schmitz. February 26, 1946, Albert was united in marriage to Luella Kaiser at St. Peterís Catholic Church on Middle Ridge. They farmed on St. Maryís Ridge for 10 years until 1956, when they moved to their farm in Leon where they lived and worked for the next 24 years. After retiring from the farm, Albert and Luella became owners and operators of the Leon Tavern for 14 years. This is where Albert was able to entertain his patrons with his silver tongue, telling stories that kept you wanting to hear more. Albert loved his family very much and treasured it when family and friends would stop by for a good game of cards. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, who will be missed by many but never forgotten. Albert is survived by his wife, Luella; children: Judy Frederick of Cashton, Kathy (Carl) Sagler of Cashton, Linda (Richard) Hansen of Cataract, Jeanine (David) Stark of Cataract, Sharon (Paul) Brueggen of Cashton, Carolyn (Joe) Hansen of Norwalk, Clarice (Dale) Donskey of Norwalk, David (Julie Erickson) Schmitz of Cashton, Jeff (Carol) Schmitz of Sparta, John (Michelle) Schmitz of Leon, Steve (Lori) Schmitz of Dell, Randy (Sherry) Schmitz of Leon, Jerry (Diane) Schmitz of Leon; a son-in-law, Jeff Leis of Cashton; 46 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Paul (Marilyn), Ernie (Lucy) and Ronald (Julia) Schmitz, all of Cashton; sisters, Agnes Schmitz of Sparta and Julia Braun of Basin, WY; sister-in-law, Florence Schmitz of Bangor; brother-in-law, Donald Kaiser of West Salem; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010, 11 a.m., at St. Patrickís Catholic Church in Sparta. Father Edward Shuttleworth will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. BETTY J. THURSTON
She married Richard Thurston on July 28, 1950. After marriage they lived in Sparta and moved to Bush Prairie in 1963. They farmed for many years. She belonged to the Homemakers Club and served as a girl scout leader at the Congregational Church in Sparta. They celebrated their 60th wedding on July 28, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Richard of Sparta; children, Larry (Linda)
Thurston of Holmen, Linda Branyik of La Crosse, Allan (Susan) Thurston
of La Crosse, Kevin (Amy) Thurston of Sparta; nine grandchildren, Jerry,

Bob took great pleasure in his horses, raising and racing pigeons, sports, the Christmas tree farm, and was also an avid outdoorsman. He had special love for his horse Cindy and his dog Spike. He is survived by his children, Jeff Lichtie of De Forest, Steve (Linda) Lichtie of Deerfield, Teal (Hawley) Butler of De Forest, Teresa (Scott) Schaller of De Forest and Tya Lichtie of Chicago, IL, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his companion, Susan Cooley, two brothers, Joseph (Donna) Lichtie of South Jordan, UT and James (Mary) Lichtie of La Crosse, two sisters, Carol Kaiser of West Salem and Mary Lichtie of McFarland, and many nieces, nephews and other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and two brothers, Ray (Joyce) Lichtie of La Crosse and Edward ìBudî (Lydia) Lichtie of Amarillo, TX. DANIEL STEINHOFF
Dan served in the United States Navy and retired after nearly 20 years of service. Following his retirement he worked at Fort McCoy. He was united in marriage to Laurie Von Haden May 16, 2003, in Tomah. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Brewer and Packer fan. Dan also loved attending all of his nieces and nephews sporting events. He looked forward to golfing during the yearly Von Haden family reunion golf outing. Dan was a true family man; the best times in his life were spent spending time with family and friends.
